Media: Russia has proposed to form a register of imported games

The Russian Association of Distributors and Importers of Video Games (aka R.A.D.I. Video Games) proposed to the government to create a registry of games that are shipped to Russia. This is reported by Kommersant with reference to sources close to the government.

According to the newspaper, the registry is going to include information about "games approved primarily in terms of content" and their suppliers. They want to create a registry based on the "R.A.D.I. Video Games" system.

The president of R.A.D.I. Video Games, Yasha Haddazi, confirmed to Kommersant that the authorities had asked the organization to expand the database of R.A.D.I. Video Games. Now it contains information about the sale of physical copies of games, and the authorities are asking to add information about digital sales to it.

It is assumed that the registry will help in the fight against illegal import of games into the country and piracy. According to Khaddaji, non-payment of customs duties and VAT allows gray importers and sellers to save up to 30% of the cost of imported games.

The Ministry of Finance of the Russian Federation in a comment to Kommersant reported that it had not received any proposals from R.A.D.I. Video Games to create such a registry. Roskomnadzor and the Ministry of Economic Development of the Russian Federation did not respond to the newspaper's request, and Rospotrebnadzor stated that it supports the emergence of tools that protect the interests of consumers.
